ReplyDeleteThis is so interesting and would be fun to read through an Orientalist lens. Said always talked about how part of Orientalism was how the Other was in this frozen state of development while the West's image was always changing. The Orient is simply an experience, a picture, just like this girl is sort of...floating around and not part of the world she is in.
thanks dina. i so wish that my brain were wired to go that deep this week. i think i'm having to settle for fragments of really important insight left underdeveloped.
